The S.M. Vauclain Fire Company Originally called the James F. Dougherty Fire Company named after the Baron James F. Dougherty chartered January 20, 1908. The Fire Company was renamed and rechartered on January 9, 1920 and called the S.M. Vauclain Fire Company. It was named after Samuel M. Vauclain president of Baldwin Locomotive Works. Mr. Vauclain donated financially as well as donating the 1904 Steamer, which originally found its home at the Bryn Mawr Fire Company where Mr. Vauclain resided. Our Fire Company was located in a town originally called Leiperville. The town got its name from Thomas Leiper who established the first railroad in Pennsylvania. The town was renamed Crum Lynne after Crum Creek and Lynne meaning lake or waterfall. Our original Fire Company was located on the Baldwin properties. We then had to move across the street due to Interstate 95 construction in 1952. The Fire Company was then relocated to Haverford Road in 1974 where we are now. The S.M. Vauclain Fire Company Station 62 houses two Engines a Rescue Truck a Utility/Traffic Unit and a Ambulance. We provide service to Crum Lynne and mutual aide to the other towns in Ridley Township. Our coverage are includes parts of Interstate 95, the Blue Route (I476) and the Boeing Vertol Company.

On June 16th the Sixty-Two house headed down to the Delaware County Emergency Services Training Center along with our friends from the Seven-D house for live burn training. The crews from the Seven-D house along with hose line advancement worked on some ladder operations and exterior ventilation.  The night was a great success, nothing was broken or lost and everyone went home with out injuries.

We would like to thank fire school instructors Lt. Brian Righter from station 43, Lt Mike Kopp from Station 13 and Asst. Chief Brian Fritz (36-9B) Cardington Stonehurst for assisting with the nights training.  Capt. Bryne 62-12 for setting up the live burn training session.

A special thanks to Amanda Lloyd for providing us with photography during the training.

To Cut or Not to Cut That is the Question
Saturday, June 20, 2009
-
On Monday evening June 15th the crew had the opportunity to use the new Holmatro Core Tools. Crews had to quickly placing the tools back on Res62cue to avoid yet another fast moving thunderstorm before play time. The evening’s events was more about feeling out the new system rather than technique. Some of companies none rescue tech had the opportunity to practice with the tools.  Moving from the old 2000 series Holmatro systems to the 4000 series Core should how much faster the Core systems actual performs.  The highlight of the evening appeared to be the Mini Cutter, “it’s the little things in life”.

Thanks Chief

The officers and members of Vauclain would like to thank Chief Mike Garvin on all his hard work over the last two years. Chief Garvin was successful in acquiring several large grants in the past year including the Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighter Grant,  Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner Office Grant,  and along with Pa. State Rep Nick Miccarelli the Economic Community Block Grant. The new equipment which has been recently posted would not be possible with out Chief Garvin’s hard work.

His hard work  makes the Vauclain Firefighters safer and will also help to better serve the community. These new additions bring the company forward into the modern era.    Hats off Chief you did good.

It’s raining and we ain’t talking about the weather outside. This week its been raining all sorts of new stuff at Station 62. Earlier in the week the mail man backed his truck up to the bays and dropped off the new Scott NXG7 air packs with the pack tracker system. Captain Byrne has been busy installing the 100 new batteries into the packs. Although a few members almost had a stroke over the cost of batteries, everyone is pleased to finally see the new equipment pouring in
