Letter from the Chief

AAHHH.... SUMMERTIME IS HERE AGAIN
Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Hello Everyone, Vauclain Fire Company has dramastically(LOL) improved over the last three years! Without the untiring dedication of the members we would not be where we are today! Vauclain has made many new friendships during the last three years and we want to thank Tinicum, Prospect Park, Colwyn, Aston Beechwood, East Lansdowne and Flourtown Fire Companies for their assistance. Things have been very busy for both the Fire and EMS Divisions. We have experienced so many improvements that its hard to list them all! Vauclain will receive a new facelift inside when the folks from Home Depot help us paint the interior of the 62 House by way of a grant that was awarded to us by Home Depot. Our dear friends Beth and Lauren came to visit us recently and presented us with a $3,500.00 check to replace the laptop on Rescue 62! The new ambulance has been a tremendous asset to our EMS service along with our new relationship with All State Allied Health School. Many firefighters have obtained their Fire 1 and 2 Pro-Board certifications which will enable us to elevate our Department status to Silver Recognition from the Pa Fire Commissioners Office which is a great accomplishment. Our first ever "Wrecker Weekend" was a huge success and from all the positive feedback looks like we may hold the program again next year! Billy "Redman" Henderson has come back to full duty as Deputy Chief and we are all thrilled to have him back within the ranks. Billy is a lifetime member and has held the position of Fire Chief for many years! He will truly be an asset to all of us and the community. With all this said I will leave you with some important summer safety tips. Summer Heat is Here! 1. Remember to wear sunscreen while enjoying the great outdoors this summer. 2. Never leave your pets in an unattended car during these hot months. 3. Drivers, be aware of motorcyclist and share the road. 4. Do not use extension cords to run your air conditioners. 5. Drink plenty of fluids if working outside during the summer months. Chief Garvin
