Drills Continue

Thursday, April 7, 2011  Weekly drills continue as the weather starts to break. On Monday firefighters trained on simulated car fires. Crews used the car donated by EMS Lieutenant Chris Stanton, to simulate how we would attack a car fire using the bumper line on the Rescue.    On Wednesday firefighters worked with the pipeline flowing 2 deck guns and a hand line. Crews went over the effects of friction loss, and how it affects us in the fire service. Crews went old school, and used the hard sleeve off the Pipeline to hook into the hydrant, to flow almost 1,100 gallons a minute out of the Pipeline. Firefighters from Vauclain will continue to drill as the weather break, so keep posted for more drill events.

Boat Fire in Leedom

Friday, January 7, 2011  Companies 70 and 62 were dispatched for a report of a boat fire in the Ridley Marina just after 7 p.m.  Engine 70 responded soon after and arrived on scene with a boat well off.  Pipeline 62 responded with 6 and arrived on scene shortly after.  The Pipelines crew assisted Engine 70 with fire suppression, and pulled a second line from Engine 70.  The Driver of the Pipeline supplied Engine 70 with water supply, while crews tried to make an attack on the fire.  After several attempts to knock the fire, 70 Command called in a special call for Engine 8 for foam.  Engine 8 arrived on scene and deployed their foam getting the upper hand on the fire.  Firefighters used saws to cut holes into the hull of the boat, to gain access to the inside of the vessel.  After checking for further extension in the hull, the fire was placed under control.  Crews remained on scene for a short time assisting with clean up.  Thank you to Rachael Bierman (08) for the use of her photos.
